Professional development for individuals refers to actions or aspirations oriented towards any of the following aims:

    * Improving awareness

    * Improving knowledge

    * Developing strengths or talent

How does the Certification Pathway work?

First, you need to complete the foundation program – Essential Steps to finding and securing the job you want -The Professional Development Foundation Program, which focuses on the fundamentals, general knowledge, terminology and BASIC concepts used in professional development and improving your employability. There is no examination at the end of the Foundation program.  This program earns you 2 points toward your Managing Professional Development Certificate.

After this come the Professional Development Intermediate programs. The prerequisite for these programs is that you have the Professional Development Foundation certificate. The Developing and Improving your value as an integral member of the workforce - Professional Development Intermediate programs are more specialized and show a progression in the field.

Program 1 includes: Further training on the essential elements to develop yourself e.g. Decision Making and Assertiveness, Time Management, Dealing with Change and Conflict resolution.

Each Intermediate program earns you 5 points toward your Managing Professional Development Certificate (minimum 12 points entry requirement).

The next, and final, level is the Career by Design, skills, advice and training to build your management potential - Managing Professional Development program. This is specifically aimed at Human Resource staff, Supervisors and Managers who wish to consolidate their knowledge and experience and achieve formal recognition of their skills. On completion of the program materials, students will be eligible to sit the Managing Professional Development exam.  The program is worth 5 points.

Once you have gained 17 points, you will have achieved Professional Development Expert status and receive your Professional Development Expert certificate.

Each course provides preparation for the exams and successful candidates receive a certificate.

How/Where do I sit my exam?

To organize the exam, you need to nominate an Exam Supervisor/Proctor.  This person must not be a family member (share the same surname), or have a vested interest in you passing the exam.  Once you have found someone to supervise the exam for you, send their name and email address to your trainer. We will then contact them, and send the relevant paperwork (some reading materials and a declaration to be signed).

Once this paperwork is completed, we can arrange a suitable date, and time for your exam.  The exam will be emailed to your supervisor, once you have completed the exam, they will send it back to us (with a few other documents) and we will mark the exam for you asap.
