The Toolkit contains the following practical and powerful enablers with new and updated CMIO specific requirements:

STEP 1: Get your bearings

Start with...

Organized in a data driven improvement cycle RDMAICS (Recognize, Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control and Sustain), check the…

  • Example pre-filled Self-Assessment Excel Dashboard to get familiar with results generation

Then find your goals...

STEP 2: Set concrete goals, tasks, dates and numbers you can track

Featuring 910 new and updated case-based questions, organized into seven core areas of process design, this Self-Assessment will help you identify areas in which CMIO improvements can be made.

Examples; 10 of the 910 standard requirements:

  1. Privacy should not be an afterthought; a bolt-on sometime between the initial coding and delivery of a new system. It should be designed in from the start; peer-reviewed; tested and the data controller needs to be able to show that adequate security is in place; it is monitored; and that the strictest data protection policies will apply by default. If you design your own custom apps; are these the standards you work to? When deploying purchased systems; is privacy set at its tightest by default?

  2. For HIPAA, glba and/or other state or federal regulation compliance, what due diligence/auditing is performed to ensure that you remain in compliance and what individual(s) in your organization are responsible for said compliance?

  3. Where do you see your organizations ineffective alignment and execution of business strategy and IT strategy and what factors contributed to its failure? How do you mitigate corresponding factors?

  4. Who leads mapping the current and future plan or roadmap for your organizations IT strategy, including the extent to which current and future strategic themes align with applicable acquisitions?

  5. Are your processes mission critical like regulatory compliance standards that require full visibility and traceability of every action and decision within a process such as: PCI, HIPAA and SOX?

  6. Is management assured of the fact that suitable IT resources, infrastructures and skills are available (including external resourcing) to meet the required organizational strategic objectives?

  7. If penetration testing has been determined to be reasonable and appropriate, has specifically worded, written approval from senior management been received for any planned penetration testing?

  8. How are key non-IT leaders (executive, legislative, judicial) consulted regarding specific business/mission drivers for your organization that IT investments are being asked to support?

  9. Can institutions and investigators subject to the Federal Health Insurance Privacy and Portability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule share data in accord with the NIH Data Sharing policy?

  10. Are rules being enforced to remove access by staff members who no longer have a need to know because they have changed assignments or have stopped working for the organization?

Complete the self assessment, on your own or with a team in a workshop setting. Use the workbook together with the self assessment requirements spreadsheet:

Defining, designing, creating, and implementing a process to solve a business challenge or meet a business objective is the most valuable role; In EVERY company, organization and department.

Unless you are talking a one-time, single-use project within a business, there should be a process. Whether that process is managed and implemented by humans, AI, or a combination of the two, it needs to be designed by someone with a complex enough perspective to ask the right questions. Someone capable of asking the right questions and step back and say, 'What are we really trying to accomplish here? And is there a different way to look at it?'

This Toolkit empowers people to do just that - whether their title is entrepreneur, manager, consultant, (Vice-)President, CxO etc... - they are the people who rule the future. They are the person who asks the right questions to make CMIO investments work better.

This CMIO All-Inclusive Toolkit enables You to be that person.
